In a pivotal development aimed at improving public financial management, a new initiative has been unveiled to bolster cooperation between Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
This project is designed to cultivate meaningful dialogue and collaborative efforts that enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the realm of public financial management. Mr. Einar Gorrisen, Director General of the INTOSAI Development Initiative, announced the official launch today, highlighting its importance in the ongoing mission to strengthen integrity and oversight in the public sector.
Auditor General Dr. Ron Mwambwa emphasized that this partnership aims to close the existing gaps between SAIs, which are tasked with auditing government finances, and CSOs, which are essential in advocating for governance that is both transparent and accountable.
The initiative’s primary goals include enhancing transparency through improved communication and information sharing, promoting accountability by ensuring public institutions are answerable for their financial actions, and providing capacity-building resources and training to empower both SAIs and CSOs in their roles of monitoring and evaluating public financial management processes.
The initiative aims to bolster collaboration between two vital sectors by implementing structured dialogues and joint activities, thereby creating a more unified approach to tackling financial management issues.
During the launch event, notable speakers from the Embassy of France to the Republic of Zambia and Transparency International Zambia emphasized the significance of this partnership in promoting public sector reform and optimizing the utilization of public resources.
This project, which is slated to continue until December 2025, is anticipated to serve as a model for similar global collaborations, showcasing the essential role that civil society plays in supporting the efforts of audit institutions.
