The principle of equitable and reasonable utilisation of international water resources is a good rule that guides the manner in which transboundary water resources could be shared and how to balance the competing interests of the concerned countries, said Dr. Kamayoyo Kelvin, Technical Advisor for African Rivers and Zambezi River lndaba & Expo 2024. It is critical that the continent of Africa begins to hold more constructive discussions around the management of transboundary shared water resources because freshwater resource is currently under threat from the advent of climate change adverse developments.

Dr. Kamayoyo noted that climate change is real and is unrelenting thereby causing unprecedented harm on both economic and social sectors across the continent of Africa especially among the weak economies and people living with scanty resources, respectively. Climate change is also a major threat to the healthy of rivers and other water bodies, and continue to induce uncontrollable bush fires, unprecedented floods and cyclones, prolonged periods of droughts, and extreme temperatures making life unbearable for both humans and wildlife.

Against this backdrop, the first-ever Zambezi River Indaba and Expo 2024 will endeavour to put all these observed issues into context and bring together experts, civil society, academia, community leaders and policymakers to explore effective ways on how to mitigate against climate change and contribute to making planet earth a safer place. The Zambezi River lndaba and Expo will be held in Livingstone from the 25th to 28th March, 2024 under the main theme: “Promoting River Restoration, Tourism, Climate Finance and Technology for Sustainable Development and Job Creation in Africa.”

African Rivers a not-for-profit international conservation non-governmental organisation wish tobassure the delegates and other participants attending the first-ever Zambezi River Indaba and Expo 2024 that the event will aim to promote diversity, cultural exchanges, eco-friendly investment, peace, discoveries and unity of purpose. The design of the programme for the first-ever Zambezi River Indaba and Expo takes into consideration the people of Southern Province in particular the Livingstonians by providing them with “day and night” specialised social events and entertainment for cultural exchanges, integration, business networking and inclusiveness.
