Chishimba Kambwili, a member of the Patriotic Front (PF), has reportedly made an unauthorized departure from the country and headed to Zimbabwe.
According to the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, initial investigations suggest that Mr. Kambwili, who was scheduled to be airlifted to South Africa for medical treatment, decided to choose Zimbabwe as his destination instead.
This unexpected turn of events has raised eyebrows and sparked curiosity about the reasons behind his decision to bypass the original plan.
In a joint press briefing held in Lusaka, Mr. Mwiimbu, accompanied by Health Minister Sylvia Masebo, shed more light on the situation involving Mr. Kambwili.
Contrary to previous reports, Mr. Mwiimbu clarified that Mr. Kambwili’s passport was not confiscated, but rather left at the immigration office at Chirundu border post.
This suggests that Mr. Kambwili may still be in Zimbabwe, unless he possesses other necessary documentation to leave the country. Adding to the discussion, Ms. Masebo revealed that Mr. Kambwili was initially cleared for evacuation to seek medical attention in South Africa.
However, he made the decision to go to Zimbabwe instead. It is worth noting that when the Ministry was arranging his evacuation, Mr. Kambwili expressed a desire to be taken to the UK for medical treatment.
Unfortunately, the government’s connections for medical facilitation are limited to India and South Africa, which is why the UK option could not be accommodated.
