Police officers at Mazabuka Police Station have been left shell shocked after a 24-year-old suspect who is in cells asked them to allow him feed his African Sea snake, locally known as ‘chilomba’.

The suspect who was arrested on allegations of stealing a smart phone proceeded to unpack the ‘chilomba’ from a bag that he had left at the inquiries desk and started feeding it with mealie meal.

An eye witness informs Byta FM Zambia that the ‘chilomba’ looked like a bird and was covered in a red piece of cloth.

The bizarre incidence happened Friday morning at Mazabuka Police Station cells.

At press-time the suspect was being interrogated by a Senior officer while the bag containing the ‘chilomba’ was being guarded by junior officers.

Efforts to get a comment from Mazabuka District Police Officer Commanding James Muluwa were unsuccessful as he is out of office.

And when contacted for a comment, Southern Province Police Commissioner Paul Achiumi promised to issued a statement soon.
