Several Police officers have been badly beaten by angry villagers in Kagoro area in Katete District of the Eastern Province. Three officers are reported to be admitted and in ICU at St. Francis Hospital while others are also nursing serious injuries.

According a report published by the Sun FM Zambia, the villagers got angry when they saw a murder suspect walking freely after his release from police cells.

They started beating up the murder suspect and as a group of Police officers arrived at the scene including the CIO to rescue the suspect from the mob, villagers pounced on the Police officers leaving them with serious injuries to nurse and their vehicle burnt to ashes.

It is reported that calm was only restored after the intervention of ZNS officers from Mutetezi Camp. Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga is yet to give an official statement on the incident.
