Lusaka, Zambia 9 June 2025 – As the nation enters a seven-day period of mourning following the passing of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, high-ranking officials and citizens have begun paying their respects at Belvedere Lodge, the government-designated mourning site. Among the first to sign the book of condolence was UPND official Mwaliteta, demonstrating a moment of national unity in grief.

The late President Lungu, who served as Zambia’s sixth Republican leader from 2015 to 2021, passed away on 5 June 2025. In honour of his contributions to the nation, the government has declared a week of mourning, with flags flying at half-mast and official ceremonies held across the country.

Belvedere Lodge, a prominent venue in Lusaka, has been selected as the primary location for dignitaries and members of the public to offer their tributes. The site is expected to host a steady stream of mourners, including government officials, opposition leaders, diplomats, and ordinary Zambians wishing to pay their last respects.
