The Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light HWPL over the weekend successfully hosted the Clean Up, Crime Down! Peace Street Project as part of the Crime-Free Zone Lusaka initiative.
This initiative, under HWPL’s Legislate Peace Program, aims to establish sustainable frameworks for conflict resolution and community engagement.
HWPL is an international NGO affiliated with United Nations UN Economic and Social Council ECOSOC, and promotes conflict resolution and global harmony through interfaith dialogue, youth and women’s empowerment, media initiatives, and legislative efforts.
Co-hosted by Lusaka City Council in collaboration with Lusaka Integrated Solid Waste Management Company Limited (LISWMC) and Zukani Action Zambia, the event brought together government officials, youth, influencers, and volunteers to promote peace, security, and environmental responsibility.

The event underscored the importance of maintaining a clean environment as a means to foster peace and security.
Participants attended an educational session focusing on identifying recyclable plastics and proper waste separation methods.
Volunteers were provided with cleaning equipment such as sacks and gloves before engaging in a large-scale cleanup activity, which included waste collection, drainage clearing, and ground leveling.
During the event, Dr. Gabriel Pollen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, delivered a Congratulatory Speech, emphasizing the direct correlation between environmental neglect and social instability, stressing that a cleaner Lusaka leads to a safer and more united community.

A historic milestone of the event was the unveiling of Zambia’s first Peace Street signboard, symbolizing a collective commitment to sustainable peace and responsible urban management. He urged all citizens to take ownership of their environment and work towards a cleaner, greener, and more peaceful Zambia.
Mr. Victor Kagoli, Director of Public Health at Lusaka City Council emphasized Lusaka’s leadership in fostering a culture of civic pride and collective responsibility, stating that “a clean city is a peaceful city.”
Mr. Imuwana Mwanamwalye, CEO of LISWMC reinforced this message, stressing that waste management is peacebuilding and urging continuous efforts to keep Lusaka clean and secure.
