The Government of Zambia has officially announced the commemoration of the 2025 National Youth Day, which will take place on 12th March 2025 under the theme “Voices Amplified and Innovations Ignited.” The announcement was made through a Cabinet Office Circular No. 03 of 2025, signed by Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick K. Kangwa.
The National Youth Day is an annual event observed on 12th March to honour the contributions of the youth towards Zambia’s political independence and national development. It also serves as a platform for young people to express their views on social and economic issues affecting their well-being.
Line-Up of Events for National Youth Week
In the lead-up to 12th March, the government has planned a series of activities aimed at engaging the youth in various developmental and entrepreneurial initiatives:
- Tuesday, 4th March 2025 – Official Launch of the National Youth Week by the Minister of Youth, Sport, and Arts at Piazza – East Park Mall.
- Thursday, 6th March 2025 – Community Service activities across all provinces and districts to encourage youth involvement in social development.
- Wednesday, 7th March 2025 – An Entrepreneurship Fair will be held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre to showcase youth-driven innovations and business opportunities.
- Wednesday, 12th March 2025 – A Wreath Laying Ceremony at Mongu Stadium in Western Province to honour past youth contributions.
- Friday, 14th & Saturday, 15th March 2025 – The National Youth Indaba will be hosted at Mulungushi Conference Centre, with President Hakainde Hichilema expected to officiate the event.
To ensure broad participation, provinces have been advised to host mini-Indabas virtually, which will feed into the main Indaba discussions.
Government’s Call for Youth Engagement
In his circular, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick K. Kangwa urged all government institutions, organisations, and stakeholders to actively participate in the celebrations and support initiatives aimed at empowering the youth. He emphasised the importance of youth involvement in national development through innovation, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement.
Furthermore, all provinces and districts have been directed to organise activities within their available resources to mark the event.
A Platform for Change and Innovation
The 2025 National Youth Week is expected to be an opportunity for young people to showcase their talents, exchange ideas, and drive solutions to Zambia’s social and economic challenges. With a focus on amplifying youth voices and fostering innovation, the event aims to empower young leaders who will shape the country’s future.
As preparations intensify, all eyes will be on Mulungushi Conference Centre, where the President’s speech is anticipated to highlight key government policies and commitments toward youth empowerment.
