Accountancy students from The Copperbelt University today (31/05/2022) paid a courtesy visit on the Auditor General and his office. The students, who are part of a student organization called Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountancy – CBU Chapter were at the office of the Auditor General this morning to meet, to learn and to get inspired among other reasons.
Led by its president, the student body expressed elation at the opportunity to be hosted by the AG’s office. Speaking during the interaction, the president of the chapter suggested a keenness by the students to interact more oftenly with the office as it would be an opportunity for them to get exposed to real time application of the lessons they learn in class. He also gave a brief background of the chapter were he said it was established in the year 2000. Since its establishment the chapter has come up with an alumni which engages in different projects within the CBU Campus, especially social corporate responsibility. In the same SCR spirit, the chapter has identified a school in Kitwe’s Chipata Compound called Elim community school where they time and again render help to learners who face various challenges with their academic journeys. This move has helped them position themselves strategically to market the profession as he said.
The Auditor General was equally elated and happy to host students who are studying to enter his kind of professional space. He advised them to get more practical in their careers if they are to excel because the competition has moved from the paper to actual field work. He said regardless of how high somebody can climb up the academic ladder, true servicemanship lies more in the execution than in the papers. On a somewhat light note, he advised the students to stay disciplined and desist from Jambos (Riots).
He went on to assure them that the office is ready to receive their employment applications after their final exams as long as they perform well enough and uphold the discipline levels that are expected of them being accountants. He further assured them assistance in any feasible form from the office anytime.
