The Zambia Police Service has strongly refuted and condemned recent allegations made by Patriotic Front (PF) Information and Publicity Chairperson, Emmanuel Mwamba. Mwamba claimed that police surrounded Flava FM in an attempt to halt an interview with United Nations Special Rapporteur Irene Khan. These allegations have been categorically dismissed as falsehoods.
In a press release issued today, the Zambia Police expressed disappointment over Mwamba’s accusations, describing them as misleading and harmful. According to the Police, such claims not only tarnish their image but also seek to incite unnecessary public anxiety.
“We categorically refute the allegations made by Mr. Mwamba. At no point did the Police surround Flava FM or attempt to disrupt any interviews involving Ms. Irene Khan,” the statement read. “We urge members of the public to ignore these baseless statements and focus on verified information.”
Flava FM, the media house at the center of these claims, also issued a statement dismissing Mwamba’s assertions as unfounded and entirely without merit. The station emphasized its commitment to upholding journalistic integrity and providing an open platform for diverse voices.
“These allegations are baseless and misleading. At no point did we experience any interference from the Zambia Police. The interview with Ms. Khan proceeded without any disruptions,” Flava FM management stated.
In light of these developments, the Zambia Police has hinted at possible legal action against Mwamba for spreading misinformation. According to the Police, deliberate attempts to mislead the public and sow discord are serious offenses that will not be taken lightly.
“This kind of behavior is unacceptable. We will take appropriate action to ensure that individuals spreading falsehoods are held accountable,” the statement concluded.
The incident highlights the critical need for responsible communication, especially from public figures. Spreading unverified information can harm reputations, create unnecessary panic, and undermine public trust in institutions.
As the story develops, it serves as a reminder for citizens to rely on credible sources and verified information, particularly in sensitive matters involving national institutions and international representatives.
