🇿🇲 Lusaka, Zambia – January 27, 2025
In a significant move to strengthen Zambia’s democratic processes, the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ), and the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to reaffirm their commitment to ensuring credible elections in the country.
The MOU, signed today in Lusaka, reestablishes the Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG) as a key player in monitoring Zambia’s electoral processes, aiming to ensure transparency, accountability, and the integrity of future elections.
Bishop Paul Mususu, EFZ Chairperson, emphasized that this agreement marks an important milestone in the consortium’s shared journey. “This MOU is a testament to our unwavering commitment to safeguarding democracy in Zambia,” Bishop Mususu said.
The partnership’s primary focus is on effective monitoring of electoral activities and providing a platform for non-partisan observation to enhance community and policy engagement. CCMG aims to facilitate transparent information gathering through systematic monitoring, contributing to the credibility of the nation’s elections.
Bishop Andrew Mwenda, CCMG Chairperson, also reaffirmed the significance of the MOU, stating that it strengthens the collective efforts of the church mother bodies to ensure transparent elections and uphold the core values of integrity, accountability, and democracy.
With the signing of this agreement, the churches’ united efforts are poised to play a critical role in enhancing Zambia’s democratic processes and election credibility.
Let’s stay committed to building a transparent, accountable, and democratic Zambia! 💪🇿🇲
