In a significant move to enhance public engagement and communication within government structures, the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRC) has applauded the recent appointment of Principal Public Relations Officers in government ministries and provincial administrations.
ZIPRC President Irene Chipili commended this development, highlighting its alignment with the growing need for effective and strategic communication. “This development aligns with the growing need for effective and strategic communication to foster transparency, accountability, and citizen participation,” said Ms. Chipili.
She further acknowledged the Government’s response to ZIPRC’s long-standing call to elevate the Public Relations (PR) function to a decision-making level, which marks a significant milestone for the profession. “We appreciate the Government’s proactive stance in recognizing the importance of PR in governance,” Ms. Chipili stated.
However, Ms. Chipili also voiced concerns about the manner of these appointments, emphasizing the need for urgent attention to certain aspects. “ZIPRC is engaging with relevant authorities to address these concerns to ensure that the appointments uphold professionalism and align with best practices,” she remarked.
The Institute reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with the Government and stakeholders to raise the standards of public relations and communication practice in Zambia. “ZIPRC will continue to advocate for professionalism, ethical conduct, and capacity building to ensure public communication serves the interests of the citizens effectively,” Ms. Chipili added.
In conclusion, ZIPRC remains dedicated to strengthening the PR profession and ensuring its contribution to Zambia’s governance and development. The recent appointments are seen as a positive step towards achieving these goals.
