Lusaka, 13th December 2024 – In a significant move aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the Zambian government, President Hakainde Hichilema has made several key appointments and terminations at the Permanent Secretary level. This announcement was made through a press release issued by the Office of the President, State House.
According to the press release, President Hichilema, exercising his powers under Article 184 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia, has appointed Mr. Arnold Minter Simwaba as Permanent Secretary – Electricity in the Ministry of Energy. Additionally, Mr. Louis Mulube has been appointed as Permanent Secretary at the Public Service Management Division (PSMD), and Mr. Zacharia Luhanga as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour.
In another significant move, President Hichilema, under Article 92 (1) of the Constitution, has transferred Ms. Margaret Miyoba to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Furthermore, the President has terminated the contracts of Professor Christopher Simonga from the Ministry of Health, Ms. Hope Kalibi Simubeko from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Ms. Francesca Chisangano Zyambo from the Ministry of Energy, as per Article 270 of the Constitution.
The President expressed his gratitude to the outgoing officials for their service and wished them well in their future endeavors.
This reshuffle is seen as part of President Hichilema’s broader strategy to streamline government operations and improve service delivery to the citizens of Zambia.
