President Hakainde Hichilema has issued a stern warning against the misuse of social media under the guise of promoting democracy, emphasizing the importance of responsible online behavior.
During a recent event in Kitwe, where he inaugurated the Chimwemwe level one hospital, Hichilema highlighted the necessity of addressing social media abuse, drawing attention to the proactive measures taken by the British Government to eliminate criminal activities and misinformation from these platforms.
He articulated a clear distinction between the exercise of human rights and the perpetration of criminal acts, asserting that spreading falsehoods on social media constitutes a criminal offense that could lead to national disillusionment.
The President’s remarks underscore a growing concern about the impact of digital misinformation on societal cohesion and the need for a more vigilant approach to online conduct.
