The National Assembly of Zambia has voiced its serious concerns regarding claims made by Independent Member of Parliament for Lumezi Constituency, Munir Zulu, who suggested that the meal he ordered at the National Assembly Motel on Monday might have been contaminated with poison.
In an official statement released today, Senior Media Liaison Officer Nshamba Muzungu emphasized that the Assembly regards any unfounded accusations that could tarnish the reputation of both the motel and the institution itself with utmost seriousness.
Mr. Muzungu characterized Mr. Zulu’s allegations as not only troubling but also reckless, highlighting that the National Assembly Motel adheres to stringent food safety protocols to guarantee the well-being of its patrons.
He urged the Lumezi MP to refrain from making baseless claims, particularly given his influential position within the community.
The controversy escalated when Mr. Zulu declined to consume the soup he had ordered, citing the waiter’s refusal to taste the food in front of him as a reason for his apprehension, subsequently leading him to share his food poisoning allegations on his Facebook page.
