President Hakainde Hichilema has expressed his commitment to understanding the behaviors of Zambians amid the ongoing drought, emphasizing the importance of resilience in challenging times.
Speaking at the funeral service for former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa, Hichilema highlighted his observations regarding how citizens are coping with the adverse effects of the drought.
He posed critical questions about whether individuals are seizing this difficult period as an opportunity to innovate, such as by adopting irrigation techniques to enhance food production.
“I have been observing our nation during this drought year, assessing how people are responding to these challenges,” he remarked.
The President urged citizens to view hardships as potential learning experiences, suggesting that one’s mindset can transform difficulties into valuable opportunities. He drew a parallel to the late Maureen Mwanawasa, who, despite her health struggles, made significant contributions to society.
Hichilema called on Zambians to reflect on their own lives and consider how they can make the most of their time, encouraging a collective mindset shift towards finding solutions in adversity.
“As we navigate these tough times, let us celebrate and seek opportunities within our challenges,” he concluded, leaving the audience with a thought-provoking question about the legacy of their own lives.
