Today, Zambia experienced a profound sense of loss as President Hakainde Hichilema stood alongside the Mwanawasa family to honor the memory of our beloved former First Lady, Dr. Maureen Kakubo Mwanawasa, who sadly passed away on August 13, 2024.
Her burial took place on August 19th, a date that resonates deeply within our hearts, as it not only commemorates the anniversary of her late husband, President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa’s passing in 2008, but also marks the 30th anniversary of her graduation as a lawyer.
The entire nation shares in the grief of the Mwanawasa family, mourning the departure of an extraordinary daughter of Zambia.
Dr. Maureen Mwanawasa was a beacon of vibrancy and compassion, channeling her energy and diverse skills into uplifting the vulnerable and marginalized through countless charitable endeavors.
She exemplified integrity, diligence, and resilience, consistently seeking constructive solutions amidst adversity.
As we bid her farewell, let us, as a united nation, aspire to reflect her humility, dedication, loyalty, and steadfast commitment to the progress of our country, as emphasized by President Hakainde Hichilema.
