The Government has emphasized the necessity of a revamp within the Copper Queens technical bench in order to enhance the team’s performance in future competitions. Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu has expressed the urgency for changes following the team’s disappointing display at the 2024 Olympic Games, where they were eliminated in the group stage after suffering defeats in all three matches.
Nkandu has highlighted the importance of replacing the coaching staff and recruiting new talents to strengthen the midfield, defense, and goalkeeping areas of the team. Despite the setbacks faced by the Copper Queens, Nkandu acknowledged the progress made since their previous Olympic appearance in Tokyo.
Nkandu urged the Zambian public to maintain faith in the Copper Queens, assuring that improvements can be expected in the upcoming years. Additionally, he called upon athletes participating in other sports such as Boxing, Athletics, and Swimming to strive for success and bring honor to the nation by securing medals in their respective disciplines.
