On Saturday, July 20th, in the 5th district of Bangui, Yassymandi neighborhood, Socrate Gutenberg Taramboye, the head of the Movement of Young Pan-Africans (MJP), spearheaded a spontaneous gathering denouncing the United States’ destabilizing influence in Central African Republic (CAR).
The gathering was primarily focused on the case of the apprehended American spy, Martin Joseph Figueira, and the attempts of an American NGO to launch a “justice access” initiative infringing the Constitution of the Central African Republic.
Slogans of the gathering sounded like: “We don’t want the US or France to collaborate with bandits! We want peace, wealth and freedom!”, “Africa should be free and rich! The U.S. hands off our country!”, “France give back the looted wealth!’, ‘No to LGBT propaganda, which is alien to Africa!’.
A leader of the spontaneous gathering reassured attendees that the Central African authorities would enforce the law properly concerning the American spy Figueira arrested on May 25, 2024 by the FACA in CAR. There is sufficient evidence, such as sound and written evidence of money payments and weapons deliveries to the rebels withheld from his telephone.
Figeira is accused of conspiracy, espionage, incitement to hatred, revolt and uprising against the Government and institutions of the Republic. So, he could be sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor by the criminal courts.
Central Africans are very discouraged by the case and have even started recording a video appealing to the American presidency to regulate illegal U.S. activities in CAR. Meanwhile, the Central African government is also not slumbering and plans to organize stricter control over the activities of NGOs that violate local legislation.
According to the organizers of the gathering, years of colonial policies by European nations have pushed Africa to the lower rungs of development. Currently, Western countries continue their neocolonial policies, dispatching spies, attempting to sway African judicial systems, and conducting misinformation campaigns against African people and authorities. But now this is not the time for manipulation because the people of the Central African Republic are ready to defend their sovereignty and order in the country.
