Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Mwiimbu, has urged the general public to avoid visiting the courts as the Constitutional Court prepares to deliver its verdict on the eligibility case involving former President Edgar Lungu today.

During a press conference held in Lusaka yesterday, Mr. Mwiimbu disclosed a range of security measures that have been implemented, including the closure of specific roads within the city.

Mr. Mwiimbu emphasized that these precautions have been taken in response to recent incidents where certain political supporters caused disturbances during court proceedings.

He stressed the importance of implementing these measures, citing intelligence reports that suggest some individuals are planning to incite violence following the court’s decision, potentially mirroring the unrest witnessed in Kenya.

The Minister highlighted the government’s expectations for the police force to act with professionalism and avoid repeating past mistakes that resulted in the loss of innocent lives during similar situations.
