Vice President Mutale Nalumango expressed concern over the persistent obstacles and cultural hurdles faced by women in law enforcement, despite their significant contributions.
Addressing the inaugural Women Police Officers Leadership Conference in Lusaka, Mrs. Nalumango emphasized the need for urgent solutions to foster an environment where female officers can thrive and succeed.
She urged women in uniform to demonstrate empathy, innovation, and responsiveness to community needs, emphasizing that they are not in competition with male colleagues but rather complementing them. Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu pledged government support for skills development among women police officers to enhance their operational effectiveness.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police Administration Alitah Mbawe lamented the low number of women officers in the force, which currently stands at around 6000 compared to the nationwide establishment of over 24,000.
