Zambia National Service Commander Lieutenant General, Maliti Solochi has announced that Zesco will not implement load shedding at the Service’s milling plants across the country to ensure a constant supply of affordable mealie-meal to citizens without any disruptions.
The popular ZNS-produced mealie meal, Eagles Milling, is currently in high demand due to its competitive pricing, with residents lining up outside stores even before the product is delivered as it quickly sells out.
Lt Gen Solochi made this statement during a visit to Western Province, where he met with Kalabo District Commissioner, Musangu Njamba, emphasizing that the decision is part of an effort to boost mealie-meal production, enhance availability, and stabilize prices in the market.
In response, Njamba expressed gratitude to the commander and the service for their ongoing initiatives to stabilize the commodity, noting that the inconsistent electricity supply in Western Province has significantly impacted mealie meal availability, and the intervention from Zesco is expected to address this challenge effectively.
