President Hakainde Hichilema has emphasized the importance of FIFA promoting dialogue to resolve conflicts among its member Associations, urging the governing body to prioritize peaceful resolutions over punitive measures.
During a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the State House, President Hichilema highlighted the significance of maintaining unity within the football community and ensuring that disputes are settled in a manner that fosters harmony and progress.
In addition to advocating for conflict resolution, President Hichilema called for the implementation of training programs aimed at equipping young footballers with entrepreneurial skills and investment knowledge to contribute to economic growth and prosperity.
Furthermore, President Hichilema proposed that FIFA, along with its member Associations, collaborate on developing strategic models to support footballers in their business endeavors, emphasizing the role of sports in driving economic development.
President Hichilema also suggested that FIFA President Infantino serve as Zambia’s Marketing Ambassador to promote football and attract investments to the country, recognizing the potential for sports to enhance economic opportunities.
In response, FIFA President Infantino praised Zambia for its commitment to football development and acknowledged the country’s rich sporting heritage, expressing his office’s dedication to investing in African football for the continent’s benefit.
Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu announced that the visit of the FIFA President has resulted in a significant investment of 10 million United States dollars towards the construction of a Technical Center in Chongwe District, following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between FIFA and the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).
