The Vice President of Zambia, Mutale Nalumango, has announced that the government will prioritize investment in water infrastructure to ensure the efficient harvesting and storage of this vital resource for various purposes.
Mrs. Nalumango emphasized the significance of investing in water security, stating that it is essentially investing in life itself, as everything depends on it.
The government plans to establish facilities that can collect and reserve water during times of abundance, such as floods, to be used during periods of drought.
Mrs. Nalumango made these remarks during her visit to the NORAK Hydropower Station, located 71 kilometers southeast of Dushanbe. She expressed admiration for Tajikistan’s successful water resource management, highlighting the country’s ability to generate over six thousand megawatts of electricity from water collected in numerous dams and glaciers.
This has positioned Tajikistan as a major power exporter in central Asia. Mrs. Nalumango emphasized that water is indispensable for supporting agriculture, ensuring food security, and sustaining life itself.
