Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane has called upon Internal Auditors in Africa to come up with solutions facing the globe.
Officially opening the 8th African Federation of Institute of Internal Auditors in Livingstone today, Dr. Musokotwane said the turbulent times affecting the globe require solutions from Internal Auditors who are part of management of their respective institutions.
He said the theme “Surviving Turbulent Times” was appropriate given the turbulences the world was experiencing.
Dr. Musokotwane cited the COVID-19, effects of global warming and the war in East Europe as some of the turbulent times that have negatively affected world countries Zambia inclusive.
He further observed that the mentioned turbulences had affected the prices of petroleum and fertiliser in the case of Zambia.
The Minister was however quick to mention that whilst government was doing everything possible to keep the economy on track, technocrats like Internal Auditors needed to rise to the occasion to fight corruption and embezzlement of public resources.
Those attending the meeting include the Auditor General, Members of Parliament and Internal Auditors from Africa and USA.
