Zambia National Service (ZNS) has taken a bold step away from its traditional role as the provider of affordable Eagles Millie Meal and has expanded its services in the Zambian market.
This move has led to the establishment of Eagles Holdings Limited, a group of companies aimed at diversifying ZNS’s offerings and creating job opportunities. The launch of Eagles Holdings Limited marks a significant shift for the defense forces, and Defense Minister Ambrose Lufuma commended ZNS for this milestone.
Lufuma highlighted that the Service’s transition has not only provided employment to civilians but has also contributed to the country’s economy by delivering quality and affordable services to the citizens. He emphasized that ZNS does not intend to dominate the private sector, as the government is committed to fostering a conducive environment for both public and private sectors.
Lufuma encouraged stakeholders to consider Eagles Alert Security, a security company under Eagles Holdings, due to the high standards of professionalism associated with ZNS.
The Defense Minister expressed his support for a broader role for the defense forces in the national economy, as ZNS has the potential to significantly boost the overall contribution of the defense force to the National Development agenda.
However, Lufuma also cautioned the ZNS leadership to ensure that the companies under Eagles Holdings are run professionally, with the involvement of key government stakeholders, to promote transparency, government oversight, and adherence to public financial regulations.
ZNS commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi revealed that the project was the brainchild of President Hakainde Hichilema, who envisioned the service engaging in profitable businesses.
Lt Gen Solochi emphasized the importance of this venture and the opportunities it presents for ZNS.
