Livingstone Mayor, Ms. Constance Muleabai, has made a passionate plea to investors in China, urging them to consider establishing solar plants in Livingstone to manufacture solar panels and other solar-related products. This initiative aims to address the electricity shortages that the tourist capital has been facing due to the drought affecting Zambia.
Ms. Muleabai delivered this message during the Conversation of Global Mayors event held in Haikou City, Hainan Province, China, which was organized by China Global Television Network. She emphasized the importance of finding sustainable solutions to the power crisis in Livingstone to prevent a decline in tourism.
Expressing confidence in the collaborative efforts between cities worldwide, the Mayor highlighted the potential for these partnerships to address common challenges faced by urban centers. She called upon Chinese Mayors to motivate their constituents to explore business opportunities in the solar energy sector in Livingstone.
In response to Ms. Muleabai’s appeal, Haikou City Mayor, Mr. Ding Hui, pledged to explore the possibility of establishing a collaborative partnership with Livingstone to supply solar products. This commitment signifies a step towards addressing the energy needs of Livingstone through international cooperation.
Apart from her participation in the Global Mayors event, Mayor Muleabai also attended the China International Consumer Products Expo in Hainan province. She expressed hope that future editions of the expo would see increased participation from African countries, allowing them to showcase their products and cultural heritage on a global platform.
