In a press conference held in Choma today, Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa provided further clarification regarding the recent reports on President Hakainde Hichilema’s involvement in the construction of toilets in Kitwe’s old Chifubu area.
Mweetwa emphasized that it was not just one toilet that was commissioned, but a total of 1,475 toilets. The president took the initiative to address the dire water and sanitation conditions faced by the local residents during his campaign trail for the kwacha parliamentary by-election in 2022.
Out of the K53 million allocated for the project, 1,240 toilets have already been completed, with the remaining toilets set to be finished by the end of April 2024.
Mweetwa also urged the opposition to focus on substantive issues rather than engaging in trivial matters.
Additionally, he announced that President Hichilema will be attending this year’s Kuomboka ceremony, scheduled for this Saturday, alongside Chief Chititmukulu of the Bemba-speaking people.
