Absa Bank Zambia Plc’s Managing Director, Mizinga Melu, along with her management team, met with the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit National on 11/04/24 to discuss collaborating on the drought response efforts. This response was declared a disaster and emergency by Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema in February of the same year.
The primary goal of the meeting was for the financial institution to explore ways in which they could contribute to the drought response, as the situation has resulted in approximately 6.6 million individuals requiring urgent humanitarian food aid to survive.
During the discussions, the DMMU emphasized the importance of a united front in addressing the challenges posed by the drought, stressing the need for cooperation between the government and the private sector to effectively mitigate the impact on the affected population.
