Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane, in an interview with Phoenix News, emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving outstanding arrears over a five-year period by allocating more resources in the upcoming budget for swift clearance.

Dr. Musokotwane highlighted that the k5 billion allocated in this year’s budget for domestic debt payments was insufficient due to the significant sums involved, leading to the need for a strategic approach to address the issue effectively.

Despite the challenges posed by the availability of sufficient funds, Dr. Musokotwane expressed optimism following the cabinet’s approval of a strategy on the dismantling of domestic arrears and the successful debt restructuring deal, signaling a renewed focus and determination to tackle the issue comprehensively.

Additionally, the Finance Minister underscored the government’s diligence in addressing domestic debt accrued through treasury bills, showcasing a proactive approach to managing financial obligations and ensuring fiscal stability.
