The Newly Elected EAZ Executive Committee
Economics Association of Zambia
LUSAKA
Dear EAZ President Elect & Other ExCO Members,
RE: CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEW EAZ EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
First and foremost let me seize this rare opportunity to sincere congratulate you from the bottom of my heart especially for the elected President. To express in a moral correctness, the emphasis towards the President elect is vividly underlined because of its ability in influencing the organization’s policies and operational endeavours, henceforth.
Without much hesitation, let me say, it is your time just like many others who passed through this privileged phase before yourselves but please convict yourselves to desiring positive results and positive change in the interest of our cherished Association. We are all economists and you definitely know or are aware, somewhat, that understanding and application of theories or principles may differ at some time or instances and depending on individuals’ character or mindset but yours should always be to interpret/apply such in the interest of the Association.
In view of the aforementioned, let me advance my proposals to the new ExCo Members of the Economics Association of Zambia (EAZ) as follows:
- Revise the prohibitive membership fees;
- Establish subcommittees which incorporates even Members who are not part of the ExCo to be tasked with resource mobilisation for the Association;
- Develop new initiatives that address topical issues affecting our country or the world at large;
- Develop a Corporate Social Responsibility programme and help the vulnerable communities in Zambia and the continent of Africa;
- Develop an apprenticeship program for young graduates and also link them to industry for long term decent job opportunities;
- Nominate ordinary Members to serve on the various institutional Boards to represent EAZ. Don’t just nominate yourselves as ExCo Members you have this opportunity to change this awful and discriminatory culture, if it exists;
- Start bidding for international, regional and local research works and encourage members to use the EAZ as a principal applicant and compel them to remit some prescribed commission to the Association; and
- Start awarding some members who have served EAZ diligently as Honorary Life Members every after two years.
Against the backdrop of these few proposals, l wish to once again congratulate you for your deserving victory and pledge to support you technically and in any other way feasible so as to positively advance the right cause of the Association.
The above is my contribution to you as newly elected EAZ ExCo and if you could embrace and actualise most of them certainly success will be a common statement or proclaimation about your legacy beyond your tenure. EAZ will equally be seen to be more relevant to our country and the world at large.
Incontestably, my proposals are anchored on my desire to provide unsolicited strategic advise that could possibly induce positive performance and not to asphyxiated progress. In the interim, if you need any clarification on any aspect of this letter, please feel free to contact the undersigned.
Yours Sincerely,
Dr. Kamayoyo Kelvin
