African Rivers a not-for-profit international conservation non-governmental organization will join the lnternational Rivers and other fellow River lovers across the world to celebrate and protect all waterbodies including freshwaters on 14th March, 2024. Certainly, all the African rivers and other waterbodies need everyone’s help, said Dr. KelvinKamayoyo, Technical Advisor for African Rivers.
Please mark your calendars for the 14th March, 2024: It is the 27th Annual Day of Action for Rivers, and the river lovers and river warriors are uniting across the globe to celebrate and protect these important waterways. Observably, most African countries at least have one or more rivers, streams or lakes around them and as such ought to take keen interest in participating in the Annual Day of Action for Rivers in order to improve the health of rivers on the continent.
This year’s theme is: “Water for All.” Everyone across the continent of Africa at all levels must feel proud and duty bound to participate in this important day dedicated to rivers and other waterbodies. Thus, whether your community is tackling clean water access, fighting water pollution, combating water insecurity, against water privatization, promoting river restoration or dealing with fish migration, we know that water is life and is meant for all.
The Annual Day of Action for Rivers provides a good platform for raising the profile of the importance of Rivers and freshwater bodies across the continent of Africa and call for inclusive and multidisciplinary approaches towards the protection of rivers and defending the rights of communities that depend on them. The challenges which include climate change currently affecting the health of rivers requires concerted effort at all levels and involvement of every stakeholder for guaranteed sustainability and effectiveness.
Therefore, let us all stand as one to advocate for universal water rights and water security towards sustainable development for all.
