Gloria Mudenda, a 25-year-old resident of Lusaka’s Kanyama compound, is currently receiving medical treatment at Kanyama Level One Hospital. She was admitted after her aunt, Jane Gondwe, aged 39, poured boiling water on her as a punishment for failing to dress the chickens.

Mudenda resides with her aunt, who operates a chicken business from their home.

Yesterday, Mudenda was expected to dress the chickens in preparation for selling, but she claimed to be unwell, which her aunt did not accept as a valid excuse.

Upon receiving the news from Mudenda that she was too sick to prepare the chickens, her aunt responded with anger and impulsively grabbed the pot of boiling water that was intended for the birds. Without hesitation, she poured the scalding water onto her niece, causing immense pain and distress.

Shockingly, the aunt’s aggression did not stop there. She proceeded to physically assault her niece with various objects, including a frying pan. The relentless attack left the young girl defenseless and in excruciating pain.

The commotion caught the attention of concerned neighbors who rushed to intervene. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain, as the damage had already been done. The victim suffered a deep cut on the right side of her head and endured severe burns on her back, leaving her in a state of agony and trauma.

The assaulted niece was quickly taken by the neighbors to Kanyama Level One Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in a stable condition.

Danny Mwale, the Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, verified the incident and stated that the matter was reported to the police in the afternoon.

Subsequently, the police initiated investigations which resulted in the apprehension of the suspect. Mwale further mentioned that the suspect is currently being held in police custody and will be formally charged in due course.
