The commendable actions of our Civic Duty Association – OCIDA – are in response to the government’s commitment to not impede the registration process of the recently established United Kwacha Alliance-UKA. We applaud the government for recognizing the importance of allowing the formation of this alliance without any hindrance. This gesture demonstrates a commitment to fostering a democratic environment where diverse political groups can freely organize and contribute to the betterment of our society. OCIDA stands firmly behind the government’s decision and encourages further collaboration between the government and political organizations for the collective progress of our nation.
The United Kwacha Alliance, a coalition of 9 political parties, has emerged as a formidable force set to contest the UPND in the upcoming 2026 general elections. This alliance aims to bring together a diverse range of ideologies and perspectives, uniting under a common goal of driving positive change for the nation. The government, led by Information and Media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa, has extended a warm welcome to this new movement, recognizing the importance of a vibrant and competitive political landscape in fostering democracy and progress.
It is imperative for the government to surpass its initial commitment and engage in regular meetings with the leaders of the UKA, as emphasized by OCIDA Chairman Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu. By doing so, the government can foster a deeper understanding and collaboration on matters of mutual concern or national importance. These meetings will provide a platform for open dialogue, enabling both parties to address shared challenges and explore potential solutions. Such proactive engagement will not only strengthen bilateral relations but also demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of its citizens.
The Archbishop has expressed his appreciation for opposition parties acknowledging the importance of setting aside their disagreements and joining forces for the greater good of the nation. He remains optimistic that UKA will not be solely driven by the desire for political dominance, but rather collaborate with the government and other relevant parties to address the numerous challenges faced by the country. By emphasizing the need for cooperation and a shared vision, the Archbishop encourages UKA to prioritize the welfare of the nation over personal political gains.
The statement made by Archbishop Mpundu highlights the prevailing socio-economic difficulties that are affecting the entire nation, regardless of political party affiliation, social backgrounds, or geographical locations. These challenges are not limited to a specific group but are widespread, impacting every aspect of society.
In these challenging times that our beloved country is facing, it is crucial for every citizen of Zambia to come together and stand united. The concerns and worries that we may have should not divide us, but rather serve as a catalyst for our unity. By joining forces and confronting these difficulties as one, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way. Let us remember that our strength lies in our togetherness, and together we can build a brighter future for Zambia.
