The Mayor of Mongu, Nyambe Muyumbana, participated in the commemoration of World Cancer Day alongside officials and members of the public in Mongu District. The event focused on the theme “United to close the Cancer Care Gap,” emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges faced in cancer care.
During the event, Mr. Simomo Akapelwa, the Provincial Permanent Secretary, served as the guest of honor and delivered a speech. He urged the general public to prioritize regular screenings for various types of cancer. Mr. Akapelwa highlighted that Western Province alone has 73 health facilities that offer cancer screening services, making it easily accessible for the local population.
Furthermore, Mr. Akapelwa emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to combating cancer nationwide. The government recognizes the urgency of addressing this disease and is dedicated to providing necessary resources and support to fight against cancer. By encouraging individuals to undergo screenings and raising awareness about the importance of early detection, the government aims to reduce the impact of cancer on the population and improve overall healthcare outcomes.
