In the ongoing saga of the PF’s all-villain lineup, Morgan, the Secretary General of Miles Sampa, has demonstrated his political influence by expelling nine parliament members and Emmanuel Mwamba from the party.
Ng’ona announced that he would send a letter to the National Assembly this afternoon, seeking to have the seats of the expelled lawmakers declared vacant. The individuals who have been expelled are Brian Mundubile (Mporokoso), Nickson Chilangwa (Kawambwa), Musonda Mpakata (Lupososhi), Christopher Kang’ombe (Kamfinsa), Steven Kampyongo (Shiwang’andu), Mutotwe Kafwaya (Lunte), Mulenga Fube (Chilubi), Ronald Chitotela (Pambashe), and Remember Mutale (Chitambo).
These mass expulsions occurred after the two-day ultimatum given to the lawmakers expired. They were required to provide an explanation for attending an unauthorized meeting, which was deemed a violation of party principles.
Ng’ona said that the members’ expulsion was a result of their arrogance and pride. Despite being given an opportunity to clarify their actions, they chose to disregard the ultimatum.
Ng’ona stated that now that they have expelled the members, they are free to behave however they want without adhering to any rules as required by PF party members.
Msanzala Constituency member of parliament Elias Daka was also notified but managed to avoid being expelled. On December 2, 2023, Ng’ona sent letters to the 11 PF members, demanding an explanation for their involvement in what the party considers an “illegal meeting unknown to the Party leadership.”
As per the expulsion letters, none of the members provided any communication regarding the matter within the specified timeframe. In the letters of expulsion, signed by Ng’ona and addressed to each member, it was stated that the 10 individuals violated Article 29 subsections (c) (d) (h) (I) (j) (p) of the party constitution.
“Considering the seriousness of the offenses committed and your lack of remorse, we have no choice but to expel you from the party immediately,” Ng’ona declared in the letters. The expelled members were also instructed to surrender all party properties and documents in their possession and are prohibited from participating in any Patriotic Front programs from now on.
It remains to be seen how the Edgar Lungu-led group of the PF will respond to the expulsions and navigate their way out of the situation.
