In response to the increasing number of anthrax cases, the government has taken decisive action to protect the health and well-being of its citizens.
These measures involve providing additional training to healthcare workers to improve early detection and treatment, strengthening surveillance efforts, ensuring that personal protective equipment and medications are readily available, conducting public awareness campaigns, and closely monitoring individuals who have been discharged from medical care.
Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo provided an update on the situation, revealing that there have been a total of 335 cases of anthrax reported, resulting in four deaths across multiple provinces. Tragically, one of the victims was a 12-year-old boy. The government is implementing measures to combat the spread of the disease and protect the population.
These regions include Sinazongwe, Kazungula, Livingstone, Monze, Choma, and Kalomo. Masebo highlighted the need for immediate measures to combat the spread of the disease and protect the affected communities.

The outbreak was initially reported in the Northwestern Province, specifically in the Kasempa District. The patient affected had consumed meat from an animal that had died under unknown circumstances. The government is implementing measures to contain the outbreak and prevent further cases.
Specifically, in Muchinga Province, three cases have been reported from the Nabwalya Rural Health Center, which is located on the border of Mambwe district in the Eastern province.
In order to contain the outbreak of anthrax and prevent its spread among both humans and animals, the government has implemented a ‘One Health Approach’. This approach involves collaboration between the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to effectively combat the disease.
