Given Lubinda, the former Minister of Justice in Zambia, has been arrested for breaching parliamentary privileges. Lubinda, who is also the Vice President of the opposition Patriotic Front, was taken into custody by the police for allegedly failing to appear before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee. The details of the breach and the consequences of the arrest are yet to be fully disclosed.

This news was confirmed by Emmanuel Mwamba, a member of the Central Committee and Deputy Chairperson for Information and Publicity for the Patriotic Front (PF) party. Mwamba spoke to journalists at Woodlands Police Station in Lusaka this morning after Lubinda was summoned.

This comes after Lubinda made negative comments about the decision made by Nelly Mutti, the Speaker of the National Assembly, to suspend nine members of parliament from the Patriotic Front party whose elections were nullified in 2021.

Given Lubinda, the former Minister of Justice in Zambia, has been arrested for breaching parliamentary privileges. Specifically, he was charged with failing to attend a committee and the National Assembly, which is a violation of section 11a of Amendment Act Number 13 of 2016 of Chapter 12 of the National Assembly Act of the laws of Zambia. This news was confirmed by Deputy Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale.

According to Mr. Mwale, he is currently being held in police custody and is awaiting his court appearance.
