Police officers are currently conducting a search at the residence of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu in the Ibex Hill area of Lusaka. The search is in connection to an alleged stolen motor vehicle.
Police have executed a search warrant at the residence of former First Lady Esther Lungu in connection to a stolen vehicle. The details of the investigation have not been disclosed, but authorities have confirmed that the search was conducted at the property.
According to Lawyer Makebi Zulu, the police are not authorized to search the residence of Former President Lungu due to his immunity status.
Following a search of ECL’s residence by police in connection to a stolen vehicle, Mr. ZULU has called for transparency from the authorities. He has requested that the police provide clear information on the nature of the investigation and any evidence they may have. If there is any relevant information on the premises, Mr. Zulu has stated that it will be made available to the police.
However, it has been stated that the proper protocol would be for the police to summon former First Lady Esther Lungu to address the accusations, and she will cooperate with the authorities.
Mr. Zulu stated that if the government wishes to conduct a search, they must first go to parliament and lift the immunity of former President Lungu.
Police searched the residence of ECL in connection to a stolen vehicle, but the former President argued that the property was not in his name and therefore a search warrant should be issued in the name of the actual owner. Despite this, the police proceeded with the search.
According to Emmanuel Mwamba, the Patriotic Front Vice Chairperson for Information and Publicity, the police arrived at the premises before 6am and requested that the former President and former First Lady have their lawyers present before any action is taken.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale has announced that he will be releasing a statement soon regarding the search of ECL’s residence in connection to a stolen vehicle.
Earlier today, police attempted to access the premises of ECL’s residence in connection to a stolen vehicle. However, their efforts were unsuccessful as they brought a toll track to take down the gate but later abandoned the mission.
During the search, the toll track was found on the premises, but the generator had been turned off and other supporting equipment was packed away. Further details about the investigation have not yet been released.
However, the leader of opposition in Parliament, Brian Mundubile, has stated that if the government wishes to search the premises of the former president, a motion must be taken to parliament so that MPs can debate the matter.
At the scene, PF cadres showed their support for former President Edgar Lungu and former First Lady Esther Lungu by chanting slogans.
Since around 11am, buses carrying PF cadres have been arriving at the premises.
