By Kelvin Kamayoyo, Zambian Economist, Scholar and BuyZed Chief Technical Advisor said Buyzed Campaign is aimed at promoting both goods and services, and natural features such as the famous Zambezi River and natural wonder the Victoria Falls are important products that should be promoted in order to exponentially grow our tourism sector and simultaneously reinforce the creation of fresh job opportunities for Zambians.
He noted that the Zambezi River as an anchor to the Victoria Falls had inherent wider spill-over economic and business opportunities that impacts positively on the growth of the tourism, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, film industry, and crossborder trade, inter alia. Therefore, the people and entrepreneurs alike, have access to primary factors of production that helps to drive these sectors and industries be it land or labour and find no compelling reason why entrepreneurs should not be actively involved in exploiting businesses opportunities and invest more or attract partnerships to establish progressive joint ventures.
He further argued that the future of Africa’s sustainable growth somewhat lies in “sunrise industries” buttressed by technology and viable partnerships. He said examples of sunrise industries for Africa could be tourism products, pharmaceutical, IT and food industries because they have high growth rates and can absorb numerous start-ups or SMEs almost at every stage of the relevant value chain.
