President Hakainde Hichilema has addressed the nation on the progress made with regards to the attainment of Values and Principles with a warning that his government will not tolerate tribalism.
President Hichilema who arrived at parliament at slightly over 09hours to a quiet and simple reception said tribalism limits the ability of citizens to exploit their potential and contribute to both personal and national economic development.
The head of state also expressed concern with the high rate at which marriages in the country are breaking down owing to failure by partners to respect each other on the guise of exercising their human rights.
President Hichilema added that the new dawn administration will also not segregate in the disbursement of Constituency Development Funds but expressed concern that people in about 26 consistencies’ have not benefited from the bursaries and scholarships enshrined in the CDF.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema has disclosed that in an effort to enhance the fight against corruption, government has made changes in investigative wings, enhanced funding and that both investigations and execution of corruption cases will be exhausted in not more than 90 days.
Meanwhile, Transparency International Zambia-TIZ- has described president Hichilema’s address on the application of national values and principles as ordinary.
TIZ Executive Director Maurice Nyambe says it would have been better if the president highlighted in what specific way corruption cases will be addressed apart from just dismissing involved officials.
He has however commended the head of state for strongly speaking against tribalism in order to promote national unity.
