Government is hopeful that negotiations on the possibility of Zambia utilizing the Zimbabwean pipeline to transport fuel will soon be concluded.
Energy Minister Peter Kapala has reiterated that once this agreement materializes, it will result into reduced fuel pump prices due to shorter distance from Zimbabwe to Zambia as compared to Tanzania and Zambia or Mozambique and Zambia.
Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning, Mr Kapala says a team of experts has already been to Zimbabwe to negotiate the prices.
Mr Kapala who has reiterated that government is putting in place a number of measures to ensure availability of affordable and reliable fuel for citizens also indicated that significant strides have been made in converting TAZAMA pipeline with 56 percent of the pipeline cleaned as of today.
Meanwhile, Mr Kapala has disclosed that Zambia’s current total average power generation stands at 2235 megawatts against the 2231 megawatts power demand due to increased water levels in the country’s water bodies which are also sources of water for power generation.
