The ruling UPND has asked for more time to allow economic fundamentals it has been putting in place to start bearing fruits and possibly result in reduced cost of living and an improved economy.
UPND Luena constituency Member of Parliament Mubita Anakoka says the party is the first in government in the history of Zambia whose performance is being questioned in its first year in power.
Speaking when he featured on Friday’s edition of Let the People Talk programme on Phoenix FM, Mr. Anakoka explained that an economic cycle takes between 36 to 48 months for results of instituted new fundaments to be seen.
Mr. Anakoka has however assured citizens that the rising cost of living currently being witnessed will reduce, saying the situation would have been worse if inflation had not been reduced from the 26% the party found it when it formed government in 2021 to a single digit as well as stabilizing the kwacha.
And contributing to the programme, Patriotic Front Shiwanga’ndu Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo has advised the ruling party to communicate to Zambians challenges it has faced resulting in failed implementation of its promises.
