Kamayoyo Kelvin, a Zambian Economist and Scholar has noted that countries along the Zambezi River region can consider focusing more on producing and marketing the “Musisi” dress attire famous among the Lozi people because it has the potential to boost tourism, music, fashion and movie industries and in general the textile industry.
Therefore, just by focusing at promoting the textile value chain aimed at producing “Musisi” Lozi dress attire over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs can be created. Just by providing the local small and medium scale entrepreneurs with tailor making machines and basic training skills in tailoring, the textile industry would boom and trigger substantial growth in other industries and auxiliary sectors.
Ultimately promoting the Musisi dress attire as a brand would help propel the textile industry along the Zambezi River region, preserve cultural heritage and contribute to poverty alleviation efforts.
