KAWAMBWA District has received 2,730 packs of farming inputs under the Food Security Pack (FSP) programme.
Kawambwa District Commissioner Godfrey Chilambwe says the delivery of the farming inputs is a clear demonstration by government to enhance food security at both household and district level.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Chilambwe said this when he flagged-off the farming inputs distribution exercise to the beneficiaries in Kawambwa.
He said each beneficiary will receive 2 by 50 kg bags of Compound-D and 1 by 50 kg bag of Urea fertiliser, 1 by 10 kg maize seed and 1 by 10 kglegume seed of groundnuts.
The District Commissioner stated that the FSP is a Government programme under the Department of Community Development meant for reducing hunger and alleviating poverty among the vulnerable but viable farmers.
And Kawambwa District Food Security Committee Chairperson Steven Musonda urged the beneficiaries to follow appropriate methods of farming in order to achieve maximum yield.
Mr. Musonda who is also the District Agriculture Coordinator (DACO) discouraged the small scale farmers in the area against selling the inputs.
And one of the benefiting farmers Paul Kabanda thanked the Government for the delivery and distribution of the farming inputs on time when the farmers are preparing their fields for planting.
