As scores of companies and institutions shift camp to Ndola trade fare grounds to yet again showcase what they are all about, the Office of the Auditor General has not been left out.
The AG’s office has set up shop at the 2022 International Annual Trade Fare in Ndola where it has paraded itself bare to the public to inform and to sensitize regarding its operations.
The Office of the Auditor General is a Public Institution whose mandate is derived from three pieces of legislation; Article 250 of the constitution of Zambia No.2 of 2016, The Public Finance Management act No.1 of 2018 and the Public Audit Act No.13 of 1994. These pieces of legislation gives the Office the mandate to Audit the appropriation of all the funds that goes to Ministries, Provinces, Agencies as well as all institutions that receive government funding of any sort.
Speaking to Melo Media, the Head of Public Relations, Ms Ellen Chikale disclosed that the Office follows an elaborate audit process where they create an audit plan that is based on a risk matrix. The clients are profiled and it is from a concise analysis of the profiles where the risk matrix is defined. The clients with a higher risk are audited more frequently compared to the lesson risky ones, she added.
Asked why the Office audits these institutions , Ms Chikale said its for the obvious purpose of ensuring that all institutions that receive public funds actually apply it for the intended purpose.
