The National Sexual Reproductive Health Technical Working Group says about 153,000 new HIV infections were recorded last year in Zambia and Lusaka Province accounted for the largest percentage.
Group representative Chrispin Chomba says Lusaka province recorded about 53,000 new infections.
He says there is an increase in new HIV infections among adolescents and this trend is worrisome and requires urgent intervention from all stakeholders.
Speaking when he made a presentation before the Parliamentary Committee on Health yesterday, Mr. Chomba said the new dawn administration must prioritise the provision of Sexual Reproductive Health to adolescents in order to address this challenge.
Meanwhile, Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu who is a Member of the Parliamentary committee on Health has called for restrategising the fight against HIV/AIDS to avoid losing the gains which have been attained so far.
