The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wishes to inform the Nation that Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia is scheduled to undertake a State Visit to the Republic of Kenya from 15th to 16thJune, 2022, at the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya.
During the visit, President Hichilema and President Kenyatta will hold bilateral talks, which will centre on issues of interest between the two countries. The two Heads of State will also discuss regional, continental and international issues of mutual interest.
The bilateral talks will be followed by the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Zambia and Kenya in various sectors which will provide for the further consolidation of social economic cooperation between the two countries.
President Hichilema’s Administration is actively working to unlock the country’s economy and provide opportunities that will better the lives of Zambians, including high-level engagements aimed at exploring innovative ways of enhanced cooperation between countries for mutual benefit.
President Hichilema has continued to underscore the importance of close cooperation among African nations to increase trade and investment and ensure greater integration. The President also continues to emphasise the primacy of peace and security as a prerequisite for development on the continent. Therefore, through this Visit, the Head of State and his counterpart will build on this momentum to further solidify relations between Zambia and Kenya in various areas of cooperation.
Prior to the State Visit by the President, Zambia and Kenya conducted the Mid-Term Review of the Zambia-Kenya Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation in Nairobi, Kenya, from 12th to 13th June, 2022 in preparation of the State Visit.
President Hichilema is scheduled to return to Zambia immediately after his engagements.
