The Crushers and Edible Oil Refiners Association has opposed the decision by the Oilseeds stakeholders to export 100, 000 tonnes of Soya Beans.

Association Director Aubrey Chibumba says exporting 100,000 tonnes of soya beans may cause artificial shortage of the raw material in the country.

Dr. Chibumba is concerned that the Zambia National Farmers Union rushed to announce the export before reaching consensus with all stakeholders.

He has explained that domestic consumption last year was estimated at 421,000 metrics tonnes and has wondered why the country should export 100,000 metrics tonnes of soya.

Dr. Chibumba is also disappointed that ZNFU rejected the offer by his members to buy 100,000 tonnes of soya beans instead of exporting.
