Exclusive: Thomas Sipalo Warns of Disease Risk, Demands Immediate Relocation
Lusaka – 9 June 2025 – Komboni President Thomas Sipalo has issued an urgent plea for the funeral of late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL) to be moved from the PF Secretariat, warning that the overcrowded, unsanitary conditions pose a “ticking health timebomb.”
Speaking after joining thousands of mourners at the site yesterday, Sipalo revealed shocking conditions: overwhelmed toilets, foul-smelling waste, and gridlocked streets choking nearby businesses. “The stench alone is unbearable,” he said. “If this continues, we risk a cholera outbreak or worse.”
His warning comes amid reports that senior PF officials urging supporters to “hold the line” at the secretariat are themselves sneaking home to use proper facilities. “They preach sacrifice but won’t endure what ordinary mourners face,” Sipalo fumed.
With government proposing Belvedere Lodge as an alternative, Sipalo demanded action: “Politics must not trump public health. Move the ceremony today—or be responsible for the consequences.”
